New Mega Open-Access Scholarly Journal Publisher

Global Journals™ Inc. (US)

Global Journals™ Inc. (US) is a brand-new publisher of scholarly, academic journals. Or at least it aims to be. Its website first appeared only recently, and the publisher is now involved in an intense spam email campaign to recruit editors, editorial board members, and most importantly, article submissions.

The publisher lists 52 initial journal titles (listed below). They are divided into six broad disciplines: computer science, engineering, medical research, science frontier research (whatever that means), and human social science (thanks for that clarification that it’s not non-human social science).

The publisher claims to be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but the poor and non-standard English throughout the site belies its true location: I think this is really an Indian operation. The fact that the publisher uses the term “(US)” in its name is a sure clue that it’s not really based in the U.S. but wants to trade on the legitimacy that U.S. publishers have earned.

Some of the English usage on the site is so bad that it’s funny. Here are some examples:

  • Your Research is in safe hands. We have many full time paid peer reviewers. We rarely send precious researches to be peer reviewed by suspicious reviewers.
  • WE ARE GREEN We are concerned of our planet. It’s our policy to use environmental friendly methods, from our smallest developments to press releases, as far as possible.- Save our planet
  • We follow worldwide standardized method of double blind peer review process. We have 157+ full time and part time peer reviewers from all streams from all over the world. For transparency and security reasons we are unable to revel [sic] their names.
  • The research paper is sent to two peer reviewers of your field. Acceptance depends on their comments. The whole process is to be completed within one week.

Helpful tips from Global Journals.

The website is a testament to how low the barrier to entry into the scholarly publishing industry now is. All you need is a website, some pirated pictures of researchers in labs, and the ability to create unique journal titles.

The author fees vary by journal but are generally in the range of U.S. $300-$400. Longer papers have higher author fees. Payment is through PayPal.

I looked for plagiarism. The first phrase I randomly selected from one of the journals [1], “Estimation problems almost always boil down to estimates that are either too high or too low” and searched in Google returned several hits from the original source.

It’s clear that this is a completely bogus, predatory publisher. Most everything about it is false or deceptive.

  1. What about Scientific & Academic Publishing ?

Here is part of the editorial board of its “Software Engineering” journal.
Please notice the affiliation of the first editor!
Apparently the second does exist, but they are listing its all academic career….

    Editorial Board

Wilson Jeberson Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Deemed to be University, India
    ….
Zeeshan Ahmed University of Wuerzburg Germany, Vienna University of Technology Austria, Alumni University of Blekinge Sweden, Germany

  2. Jeffrey wrote above: ‘All you need…. is the ability to create unique journal titles’, but not even this is needed… according to the Library of Congress FAQ:

‘getting an ISSN for a title does not confer any exclusive rights to that title. Nor can titles be copyrighted. The best way to protect a title is to register it with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.’

    See: http://www.loc.gov/issn/faq.html

If this is true, then it seems there is no legal barrier to the identity theft of many journal names, since it is likely that many academic societies and university publishers have not even considered getting trademarks for their publications.

This is something that public institutions need to be warned about, as the administrators responsible for publications are also likely to lack professional training in copyright and trademark issues.

  3. Aleks Kleyn says:

I found this web site trying to find some information about journal ‘Global Journals of Science Frontier Research’ where I recently submitted my paper. It was important for me to understand how in science community react on this journal. Difference of this journal from Science and academic publishing is that they do not charge for publishing of paper and it is possible to sent them PDF format.

I read all opinion on this site and want to add few my ideas, which I get year ago I submitted to new journal ‘Clifford algebra, Clifford analysys and applicaton’. I understand that when new journal appears it may be confusing: what is future of this journal, what it is its quality. Certainly the answer depends what kind of papers will be published in this journal.

However quality of journal partially will depends on us as well. If instead of complaining will be this journal be good or not we will sent into this journal papers of good quality we will help the journal to get appropriate point. The same time we will help ourselves.

it is well known that most popular journals cannot publish all papers that are submitted there. And one of the reason increased amount of papers. And may be new journal reduce (I do not expect to solve) this problem. Probably one of the reason why we see so much title is that people do not know in advance where will be the larger number of papers, which of this titles will survive in the future and which will not.

    • While it is true that a journal’s quality depends on the authors who would send their quality research manuscripts for publications, but then again where would you invest your best work in? A crappy, phantom, poorly managed/administered journal apparently not even knowing the basic of peer-review publication process? The knowledge, experience, integrity and ethical standard of the people behind a journal – do not these have any bearing to you?
